High-Speed Networks and Services Integration

ELE 306 (A45)

Professor Ahmed MEDDAHI
Methods Lectures, Seminar, Practical work, Independent-study, e-learning
  30 hours
Prerequisites Architectures concepts and networks protocols
ECTS 4

This class aims to introduce student engineers to "high speed" networks concepts, mainly switching and high speed transmission methods. These aspects are based on technologies such as: SDH, WDM, DWDM, ATM...

This class also aims to introduce student engineers to the services side of a "multiservice" network : voice and video services, real time or isochronous flow constraints on the networks. The class finally focuses on the network Quality of Service and studies some QoS models in IP networks. The intelligent networks (IN) will be also studied.

- Layer "1" (physical): transmission high speed Principles and concepts of the transmission high speed : WDM, DWDM, SDH...
- Layers "2 and 3" (data link and network): commutation high speed principles and concepts of commutation high speed : frame relay to the ATM
- Upper layers: signalisation Networks signalisation, protocols signalisation
- Upper layers: services The multi-media type services : video and voice. Introduction to the networks Quality of Service
